How do you choose the right rug size for your living room?
The size of a rug affects how cohesive and inviting a living room feels. Choose a size based primarily on the room layout and the positions of the sofas and table. Measure the space before ordering and try marking out the proposed rug's edges on the floor with painter's tape.
Small living room: approximately 120 × 180 cm
A smaller rug works in front of a compact sofa arrangement or in a reading nook. Make sure, however, that the rug does not look disconnected from the furniture.
Medium-sized living room: approximately 160 × 230–240 cm
This size works well with many sofa arrangements. The space often looks more balanced when at least the sofa's front legs rest on the rug.
Spacious living room: approximately 200 × 300 cm or larger
A large rug can bring a sofa, armchairs and coffee table together into one seating area. Measure the overall width of the furniture to make sure the rug is not too narrow.
